SECRETARY’S REPORT - SEASON 2009/10 Last season was one of the most challenging that I have ever experienced. Not only did the winter weather decimate the fixtures resulting in the loss of the divisional cups but also the number of abandoned matches and failures to fulfil reached unprecedented levels. To add to these woes, no fewer than seven teams resigned at various stages of the season and one team was expelled. As the old saying goes, things can only get better! The National League System Cup was a welcome distraction and the Representative Team’s magnificent achievement in reaching the final more than compensated for the trials and tribulations of a long season. Despite the result, the visit to Guernsey for the final will live long in my memory and thanks go to Stuart Daly and John Davies for all their help along the way. The Presentation Night at Bootle Cricket Club was a great success and a worthy celebration of the season’s achievements in the company of Tommy Smith and Sean Styles. Waterloo Dock still reign supreme and this season did the double by adding the George Mahon Cup to their Premier Division domination. Congratulations also go to Aigburth People’s Hall who won the coveted LCFA Challenge Cup for the second successive season. During the season, significant milestones were reached by East Villa (50 years) & ROMA (40 years) and Jim Morrison was also the recipient of a Long Service Award from the Football Association for his services to football. These are truly wonderful achievements and worthy of recognition by the League. My colleagues on the Management Committee have again worked tirelessly on your behalf, something which is not always appreciated and I would like to thank the Chairman in particular for his help and assistance. Gary Berwick had more reason than most to breathe a sigh of relief when the season was eventually completed and I am sure you will agree that he is a worthy recipient of the Joby Humphries Trophy. Thanks go to the Clubs who helped him through such a difficult season. The League’s website continues to flourish under Andy Scregg’s supervision and we are grateful to Andira Ltd for their sponsorship of the website which is attracting world-wide interest. (355,392 Hits for the season) Apart from the occasional complaint, the contribution made by our referees and assistant referees should not be underestimated and we thank them for their help and co-operation. To those officials who have gained promotion we also offer our congratulations. Last but not least, thanks go to the League’s main sponsors Frank Armitt & Son Ltd and Peter Coyne for their continued support. Iain Munro June 2010
